The Schaefers have been members at South Yukon since 1976.  Mel has served as a deacon in various ministries and has served as an elder since August 2001.  Mel has taught the 7th-12th grade Bible class in the past and Doris has taught pre-school classes for many years.

Mel and Doris have one son, Greg, who is married to Carrie. Greg and Carrie have blessed them with a precious granddaughter, Isabel Anna, and they currently live in Edmond.  Mel and Doris also have two wonderful daughters.  Amber Garner and her husband, Ben, have a handsome son, Finn Nathaniel, and live in Yukon.  Their other daughter, Amy Carnagey, is married to Luke, and they live in Edmond.

Mel retired from Dayton Tires on December 31, 2006 as the Industrial Engineering manager.  Doris is a certified school teacher working for Putnum City Schools, (currently on leave of absence). They enjoy Christian fellowship, card games, and traveling.  Mel also enjoys playing golf.
